ZHANG DAQIAN (1899-1983)
Zhang Daqian was famous for his refined taste for delicacies. His chefs in residence were all exceptional cooks. Among them, Chen Jianmin was known as the father of Sichuan cuisine in Japan. Chen was born in Yibin city of Fushun prefecture, Sichuan, China. After his tenure as Zhang's personal chef, Chen emigrated to Japan in 1952 and founded Shisen Hanten in Tokyo, the first restaurant of its kind. This restaurant was an immediate success. Chen Jianmin reinvented some of his dishes, adding new elements to traditional Sichuan flavour to suit the tastes of his Japanese clients. Zhang Daqian was a devoted fan of all types of cuisine, and especially loved Sichuan food. During his sojourn in Japan, he frequently called on noted Sichuan-cuisine chefs Zhuang Yuling and Chen Jianmin. This painting was owned by Chen and is symbolic of their long-lasting friendship. Zhang Daqian left mainland China for good in the winter of 1949. Roaming the world for the next 33 years, he often painted landscapes of his homeland to express his nostalgia and love for the country. Mount E'mei was an important subject matter Zhang used to express his homesickness, as demonstrated in this lot of the same title. Zhang's portrayal of Mount E'mei is simultaneously magnificent and humbling. Zhang cleverly uses empty space to hint at the mountains towering over wispy clouds, while the houses at the summit remind us of how slight we are in face of nature. By 1971, Zhang's painting of landscapes had reached full maturity - lush and luxurious, Zhang's brush gives energy to the clouds, denseness to the rock face and an overall elusive spirituality of the mountains. Mount E'mei stands both as Zhang's primary vehicle for visual self-revelation, as well as an expression of nostalgia towards his home town.

陳健民先生收藏

張大千是出名的饞嘴之人,其家廚以陳健民 (1919- 1990) 最負盛名。陳健民原籍四川富順縣,出生於宜賓。 當陳辭廚後,即遠渡日本。1958年他在東京新橋田村町開設了日本第一家川菜餐館‘四川飯店’,既是老闆,也是總廚。此飯店名號極響,開了多家分店。陳健民針對日本顧客的口味,對傳統川菜調味進行了改進,成為日本首屈一指的大師。大千先生精於食道,尤喜吃川菜,旅日時與川菜名廚如莊禹靈、陳健民等交往頻繁,常以畫作相贈,不單記錄了他們之間的深厚情誼,亦寄託了張大千離開大陸後對故土的思念之情。
1949年冬,張大千離開了中國大陸,直至1983年去世的三十三餘年間,再也沒有重踏上中國大陸的土地。因此他不時繪畫故國風光,聊作紙上相思。四川的峨眉山就是他表現思鄉的重要題材之一。
張大千筆下的峨眉山,山質渾厚,草木華滋,鬱茂中寓以靈秀,筆墨渾瀜蒼莽,秀潤清闊,流暢生動氣象萬千,深得大自然的神髓。在追求藝術的道路上,張大千以寬豁的胸懷、鍥而不捨地吸收各派之長,兼收並蓄,在筆端中湧現了他那廣博藝術才能所融會貫通,游刃自如的崇高境界。
