FERRARI DINO 246 GTS
COACHWORK BY SCAGLIOTTI TO A PININFARINA DESIGN
Chassis No.5972
.
Yellow with black leather interior.
Engine: mid-engine, vee-six, double overhead camshafts for each bank, cast iron block and alloy heads with two valves per cylinder, 2,418cc, 195bhp at 7,600rpm; Gearbox: five-speed manual; Suspension: front and rear independent with unequal length A-arms, coil springs, telescopic shock absorbers; Steering: rack and pinion. Brakes: four-wheel disc. Left-hand drive.
The first Ferrari to be named "Dino" was so called in memory of Enzo Ferrari's son, who tragically died young and who had been closely involved in the sports racing cars of the early 1950's.
The name "Dino" was perpetuated with the 246 which was a successful attempt by Ferrari to draw potential owners of Porsches and other exotic road cars to the Ferrari fold. After two years in production as a coupe, the detachable roof spyder was unveiled at the 1972 Geneva Show and was desigated the GTS. Of the relatively limited production run of 246's, 1,200 were in the GTS guise. The beautifully proportioned Pininfarina lines of these charismatic cars, allied to their performance and road-holding soon brought them a reputation as a true driver's motor car.
This particular 246 is in beautiful condition, both mechanically and cosmetically. The yellow paint and black Targa top, together with the chromium plate are excellent, as are the black leather seats and interior trim . As this car was originally supplied to the USA the original instruments have US calibrations. The vendor bought the car in the mid-eighties; he is a major Ferrari collector who now concentrates on sports racing cars. Whilst in his hands, the engine has been rebuilt by Pozzi, the French Ferrari importer; during this work the US anti-pollution system was removed, so that this Ferrari is now to European specifications. The indicated mileage is 41,802 and the car comes with invoices for recent work including the engine rebuild.
A recent test drive was a most pleasant experience the car was performing impeccably well. It has new French documents.
