The 250 SE two-door luxury coupes and convertibles produced between 1965 and 1967 are amongst the most desirable of Mercedes-Benz types. Intended from the outset to be high-performance tourers of great distinction for four fortunate occupants, they were built on the same floorpan as the company's medium-range saloons. Essential chassis strengthening made them heavier than the saloons, and they were also wider and more lengthy, thanks to their flowing outlines. Designed very much with the American market in mind, they sported wrap-around front and rear screens. They were given high standards of equipment and finish. Altogether 6,213 were built before production ended.
Supplied new to Switzerland, this late 250SE was bought by the vendor from the original purchaser in the early 1970's. With a recorded mileage of 142,000km, it benefits from having a service history covering the past 20 years. Although it has not been driven by Christie's, is described by the vendor as being in very good original condition with an exceptionally well preserved interior. It certainly gives the impression of having been exceptionally well looked after. The car has a Becker Europa radio and the original toolkit.
