Officine Specializzate Costruzione Automobili Fratelli Maserati, OSCA for short, was formed by two Maserati brothers after they sold their old company in 1950. They made a 4.5 litre GP engine but specialised in fiery sports-racers of up to 1500cc powered by a range of free-revving little twin overhead camshaft fours.

In 1960 Fiat wanted something more exotic for their handsome Pininfarina-styled 1200 two-seater spider than their pushrod engines. They came together with OSCA, who in their largest engine, had just what was needed. It fitted perfectly in the Spider's engine bay and created an instant miniature masterpiece, highly collectable and very rare. Slightly reworked, it became the 1600 model, even more appealing with its extra performance.

The Swiss registration document with this example shows that is has been owned by the vendor since the early 1980s. It is described as 'in very good order' the engine having been rebuilt 3,000km ago.

The vendor, who uses it regularly, intends to drive it to the sale.
