These tables reflect the Regency fashion for 'Buhl', as epitomised by the Great Library at Ashridge Park, Hertfordshire, executed for John William Egerton, 7th Earl of Bridgewater (1752-1823) between 1808 and 1820, after designs by James Wyatt. Frustratingly, several possible candidates with the name 'W. Brown' are listed in Geoffrey Beard's Dictionary of English Furniture Makers 1660-1840, including craftsmen based in London, Liverpool, Yorkshire and Brighton, as well as two in Edinburgh (Dictionary of Edinburgh Furniture Makers, F. Bamford, Leeds, 1983, p. 50).
