The carver, gilder, looking glass and picture frame maker John Eckford, whose trade label adorns the reverse of these pictures, can be traced through the records of the Sun Insurance Company as having been active circa 1814-1829, at 17 Water Street, London (G. Beard & C. Gilbert, Dictionary of English Furniture Makers, 1660-1840, Leeds, 1986, p. 265).
