Lot Essay

The Four Evangelists were modelled in Rome in 1833 (E. Plon, Thorwaldsen, London, 1874, p.228). Marble medallions and plaster models are in the Thorwaldsen Museum (Thorvaldsen's Museum, Copenhagen, 1961, p. 37, nos. 575-578, p. 65, nos. 579-582).
