The present 'sterkabinet' was one of the richest and most sumptuous types of cabinets one could acquire in the late 17th century. The materials used to form the intricate geometric panels were exotic and expensive. interestingly the construction of the doors of the present lot are hollow, a feature that it shares with the floral marquetry cabinets attributed to van Meekeren.

In 1973 the cabinet was restored and according to the present owner the restorer discovered to the inside of one of the doors a design drawing of a table ensuite to the cabinet.
