A Chinese polychrome Swatow dish
Circa 1600
Painted in red, green and black enamels with a central roundel inscribed with the characters tian xia i (everything under the heavens) and in the next ring the characters for the twenty-four points of the Chinese compass, the sides with phoenix divided by large flower-heads, some rim chips and frits
38.5 cm. diam.
