The Grand Lange 1 Luna Mundi watches display the accurate waxing and waning of the moon as seen on both sides of the equator. The watches were available exclusively in sets of two and the edition is limited to 101 sets, manufactured in 2003 and 2004 and sold out.

The Ursa Major model in white gold depicts the moon phases for the Northern Hemisphere while the Southern Cross in pink gold accurately reproduces them for the Southern Hemisphere. Both Lange moons emulate the cosmic original very realistically in two respects: firstly, they move continuously and not just in sudden increments once or twice a day as in conventional watches and secondly, the mechanism was computed so precisely that the displays deviate from the synodic orbit by only one day in 122.6 years.

The Ursa Major calibre L901.8 movement comprises 398 individual parts, whereas the Southern Cross calibre L901.7 requires four more parts, including an additional wheel that reverses the rotation of the moon disc.
