With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch in 1955 and its subsequent sale on June 18th, 1957.
Patek Philippe produced the reference 1463 from 1940 until approximately 1965. The water-proof cases were made by Taubert, formerly Frères Borgel. The case interior is stamped FB over a key. It is believed that the rare Breguet numeral dials were made mostly for the US market which is confirmed for this watch with the IHOX export mark on the balance bridge.
To the best of our knowledge, this watch has never before been offered in public.
Retailed by Tiffany & Co., New York, this watch appears to be the first example of a reference 1463 to be such sold to appear in public to date. In addition to the general aspiration for collection of this model and the lovely condition of this example, the collaboration of these two firms underlies this piece's desirability.
The long-standing and continuing alliance between Tiffany and Patek Philippe began in 1851 under the guidance of the companies' owners, Charles Louis Tiffany and Antoine Norbert de Patek. In 1854 Tiffany & Co. began introducing Patek Philippe watches to the American market, including some of the rarest models.
The reference 1463 is illustrated in Patek Philippe by M. Huber and A. Banberry, 1988, plate 348, p. 206.
