With bucket-shaped bowl, engraved with an apple tree, the reverse with a moth, on a spiral opaque-twist stem and spreading foot, slight footrim chipping

Lot Essay

A similar wine-glass from the Hartshorne Collection is discussed in L.M. Bickerton, An Illustrated Guide to Eighteenth-Century English Drinking Glasses, London, 1971, no. 657 where the author suggests the engraving of an apple tree and a moth may be of Jacobite significance.
