Lot Essay

A younger son of John Powney (1704), of Old Windsor, Berkshire, Richard Powney matriculated at Queen's College, Oxford, in 1719. He was subsequently at All Souls, becoming a Bachelor of Civil Law in 1726 and a Doctor in 1731. He is known to have been an editor at the Clarendon Press.
