Lot Essay

Howard & Ayers (op. cit., p. 27) believe that these figures, described in the text as "from a minor Western country," are Scandinavians and translate the inscriptions as: She wears leather shoes and loves to read books on needlework and He traveled about 10,000 li through the Western ocean to trade in Kuangtung.
