Lot Essay

Another example of this rare form, also in Chinese Imari, was in the Benjamin F. Edwards collection and sold Christie's, New York, 26 January 2010, lot 11. Silver examples of the shape - both functional and pleasing - are particularly associated with English silver of the early Georgian period, when they were often made as part of high style cruet sets, and it lives on in elegant 20th century examples by Danish silversmith Georg Jensen.
