Lot Essay

This lolling chair is one of only three known examples with unusual carved rosette medallions and triple molding along the outer edge of the arm. This chair is the only one of the three to retain the full height of its legs. For further illustration and discussion, see Sack, American Furniture from Israel Sack Collection (New York, 1974), vol. IV, p. 884, P3557; and Kane, 300 Years of Seating Furniture (Boston,1976), no. 209.
