Label on reverse reads This frame was imported from England by Francis Borland, an English Tory, who was killed by falling from his roof while witnessing the Battle of Bunker Hill, June 17, 1775. It descended to his grandson, Joseph S. Borland, who died in Somerset, Mass. May 18, 1875. Was bequeathed to Louisa Marble and purchased of her in August 1875 by A.M. Harrison, U.S. Coast survey
