Almost certainly supplied (brown-varnished rather than white-painted) by Syrie Maugham for George and Helen Hay Whigham at 48 Upper Grosvenor Street, Mayfair.
By descent to their daughter Margaret, Duchess of Argyll, probably until the 1970s/80s when acquired by the present owner.
