A RARE GERMAN PARCEL-GILT COVERED POT WITH DISH EN SUITE
DATED 1666, PROBABLY HESSE
Cauldron-shaped on three tapering feet, with plain flat scroll handle, the detachable cover with ball finial, the circular dish with moulded border and reeded rim, the pot and base of the dish engraved with coat-of-arms and coronet within wreath and with initials S.E.L.Z.H.G.A.C.S.H.Z.S. and date 1666
the pot 11 cm. (4¼ in.) high
215 gr. (7 oz.)
The arms are those of Elisabeth-Dorothée, Princess of Saxe-Gotha, who married on 5 December 1666, Louis VI Landgrave of Hesse-Darmstadt
