This trunk was taken by Pauline Spender Clay on her honeymoon following her marriage to one of England's richest commoners, Lt.-Col. Rt. Hon. Herbert Henry Spender Clay.
The Hon. Pauline Astor was born in 1880 and was the daughter of William Waldorf Astor, 1st Viscount Astor and Mary Dahlgren Paul. She married She married Lt.-Col. Rt. Hon. Herbert Henry Spender Clay, son of Joseph Spender Clay and Elizabeth Sydney Jane Garrett, on 29 October 1904.
