The pose of the primary male figure is reminiscent of Bandinelli's Hercules in his colossal sculpture of Hercules and Cacus, unveiled in 1534 in the Piazza della Signoria, Florence. It is also similar to the figure of Perseus in the bronze sculpture of Perseus with the head of Medusa by Bandinelli's contemporary, Benvenuto Cellini (1500-1571).
