Sculpteur reconnu dans le courant des années 20-30, Léon Leyritz est aussi très proche du monde de la musique, entretenant des relations d'amitié avec Maurice Ravel, pour qui il réalise un buste puis l'aménagement de son appartement, à Paris. Il participe aussi aux décors de nombreuses pièces de théâtre, particulièrement pour Marcel Achard où ses sculptures sont disposées au milieu des meubles d'Eugène Printz.

A black-patinated Lap stone fountain, representing a stylised male nude, with gold foil inclusions, by Léon Leyritz, circa 1928, signed with the artist's mark to the base.
A synthetic product refined in 1922, Lap gave to cement the sparkle of marble through the addition of enamels, and metals such as gold or bronze, the whole fired at a high temperature. No longer produced, Lap was a popular material of the inter-war period, used first by Ruhlmann for the cladding of his dining room at the Exposition des Arts Décoratifs of 1925, and subsequently by the Martels for the decoration of the chapel of the ocean liner, 'Normandie'.

A renowned sculptor during the '20s and '30s, Léon Leyritz was also close to the world of music, including friendship with Maurice Ravel -- for whom he realised a portrait bust, in addition to the interior decoration of his Paris apartment. Leyritz also undertook the stage design of numerous theatrical productions, especially those for Marcel Achard, where his sculptures were displayed alongside furnishings by Eugène Printz.

Produit de synthèse mis au point en 1922, le Lap confère au ciment l'éclat du marbre en le mêlant à des émaux, tels que l'or ou le bronze, préparés à très haute température. Matériau emblématique des années 20 et 30, employé aussi bien en architecture qu'en décoration intérieure, il n'est plus produit de nos jours. Ruhlmann est le premier à l'utiliser pour le revêtement de sa salle à manger lors de l'Exposition des Arts Décoratifs de 1925 ; les frères Martel l'utiliseront également pour la décoration de la chapelle du paquebot "Normandie".
