EXTREMELY RARE LAFITE-ROTHSCHILD 1832
In truth, little is known today of the vintage 1832. Our chief authority in the matter of antique vintages is Mr. Michael Broadbent who accords it three of five stars, yet appears to have tasted little from this particular year. Older authors such as Andre Simon in Vintagewise or George Saintsbury in Notes on a Cellar Book are also curiously silent. Cyril Ray notes only in Lafite that there were receipts from Leith's of "Hermitaged Lafite" in the early 1830s V this was the heyday of the negociant. One thing we know with certainty is that this bottle comes from another era entirely, one that pre-dates the Rothschilds, who purchased the Lafite in 1868. The chateau was then owned by Mr. Samuel Scott of England, and that it was managed by Emile Goudal, who was particularly attentive to the reputation of his charge. We can also state that this was the year in which Greece was recognized as an independent nation by the treaty of London and the June rebellion broke out in Paris; Edouard Manet and Maximilian I of Mexico were born; and while Napoleon II passed away in 1832, this bottle of wine did not V it has found its way to you.
