Levels: one bottle 6.5cm below wax; cracked wax capsule missing at top, lightly bin soiled label, #2845. One bottle 5.0cm below cork; cracked wax capsule partially missing at top, very lightly bin soiled label, #2847
"1955 was certainly a good vintage if not truly a great one that curiously remained well below the radar screen for years, probably because it had a tendency to be austere even up through much of the '80s until finally blossoming in the '90s. Completely bricked through. A nose of strong floral notes, particularly rose petal, sous bois, leather, forest floor and Asian spice notes that introduce with real flourish the soft, caramel-infused, opulent flavors that are remarkably rich and sappy and this completely coats the mouth on the incredibly long finish. This delivers superb quality for such young vines with absolutely delicious flavors even if they are no longer fresh or youthful. In short, this is a wine of elegance and finesse with stunning length and much better than one would expect between a good but not great vintage and the young vines, it is an awe-inspiring performance."
