Signed by Van Cleef & Arpels, Paris
Provenance
The Collection of Mrs. Hélène Beaumont, Geneva, 18 May 1994

Mrs. Hélène Beaumont (1894-1988) was the wife of the late Louis Dudley Beaumont, an American entrepreneur and founder of the May Company, one of the most important department store chains in the United States. The couple were among the stars of the Riviera social scene in the pre-war years. For the numerous mondaine soirées they attended, it was necessary for Mrs. Beaumont to have the appropriate jewels. This bracelet represents Van Cleef & Arpels at their finest. The highly supple baguette-cut diamond and platinum mount is agreeable when worn and the antonym of cumbersome, more like a ribbon than a bracelet. With the advent of the 1920s flappers, bared arms came into fashion and thus bracelets were the height of chic. This jewel is typical of the thirties with its baguette-cut diamond stylised buckle design and its impressive line of fine coloured sapphires.
