Harry Jackson conceived 'The Gunsil' as a figure study for his renowned mural Range Burial. Jackson created several sculptures as studies for two of his best known historical masterworks: The Stampede (1960-66) and Range Burial (1960-63), both in the collection of the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, Cody, Wyoming. These studies were the artist's first foray into bronze casting.
