George Dance the younger, architect and portrait draughtsman, the youngest son of the architect George Dance the elder (c. 1694-1768), was a founding member of the Royal Academy in 1768. Dance is best known for his series of over 200 drawings of his friends and contemporaries which he sketched from life between 1793 and 1810.

Joah Bates, musician and concert director, became a fellow of King's College, Cambridge from 1770. He organised the 'Concerts of Ancient Music' which championed the 'baroque' style and directed the Handel commemoration of 1784 in Westminster Abbey.
