De formes variées, à décor moulé en léger relief représentant des légendes de Lettrés célèbres, le revers portant le titre de chacune de ces histoires en caractères chinois, chacun des bâtons portant sur un des côtés une marque en léger relief à six caractères Hui zhou hu kai wen zhi ('Fait par Hu Kaiwen de la ville de Huizhou') ; rehauts d'or et de polychromie

Lot Essay

This set is depicting stories of prominent scholars. The reverse is inscribed with the title of each story. All inkcakes are bearing an inscription on one edge Hui zhou hu kai wen zhi ('Made by Hu Kaiwen of Huizhou'). Hu Kaiwen was active between 1850-1864. Thereafter, his family continued to manufacture ink continuing to use his name.
