Lot Essay

A variety of interpretations of this subjectmatter was made not only on Chinese decorated pieces, but also on Dutch-decorated pieces. The latter is clearly shown in eight examples illustrated in Hervouët et Bruneau, La Porcelaine des Compagnies des Indes à Décor Occidental, Paris, 1986, p. 400-403, figs. 16.138-16.144.
