Romeyn de Hooghe (Amsterdam 10 september 1645 - Haarlem 15 juni 1708). De Hooghe is regarded as one of the important etchers in the 17th Century Netherlands.
The first issue of this wall map was made by the cartographers Jan Janszoon Dou and Steven van Broeckhuysen between 1642-1646 and originally engraved by Cornelis Danckert in 1647. In 1687 the map has been revised and re-issued by cartographers Johannes Dou jr. and Zeger Wolfsen, Romeyn de Hooghe added an elaborate border with a new series of coat of arms of the members of the polder-board of 1687. The sheets with these new arms replaced the sheets with the title of 1647, but maintaing the sheets with the coat of arms of 1647.
