A gilt bronze figure of Manjushri
Tibet, 16th century
Richly gilt and finely cast seated in dhyanasana on a double-lotus base with beaded upper rim, wearing a dhoti with cloud and floral designs and abundant jewelry inlaid with hardstones, the face gazing downward with elongated eyes beneath sloped brows, the five-leaf crown with ribbons flowing to the sides, and the hair in a topknot with tresses escaping down his back, flanked by a lotus bearing his book
