With a double bow-string border at the base of the broad trumpet-shaped neck, the exterior covered with a lustrous black glaze in contrast to the white interior, with traces of gilt decoration

Lot Essay

Compare the similar vase of comparable size (41.7 cm.), also dated to the Kangxi period, illustrated in Shimmering Colours: Monochromes of the Yuan to Qing Periods, the Zhuyuetang Collection, Art Museum, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, 2005, no. 156, where the black glaze is also referred to as a wujin glaze.
