This seated posture, a form of paryankasana, is often that of a teacher giving discourse instead of a solitary meditator, and endows this beautifully modeled sculpture a dynamic nature that engages the viewer.

Nepal, Kathmandu Valley, 14th century
Seated with one foot resting on the opposite thigh, his right hand in abhayamudra and his head gently bowed, wearing a short dhoti, sacred thread and various jewelry, the hair pulled into a high chignon topped by a finial and secured with a foliate crown
