Thailand, Sukkhothai period, 14th century
Cast with his right hand in bhumisparshamudra, his gentle face in a meditative expression with full lips, dimpled chin, and heavy-lidded eyes beneath arched brows, flanked by elongated earlobes, his hair rising over the ushnisha and topped by a flaming chintamani, a rich green patina with remains of gilding overall

This figure's wide shoulders and even wider lap create a pryamidal composition that is considered universally pleasing throughout art, and imparts an overall sense of solidity and strength to the sculpture.
