Château Latour--Vintage 1983
Pauillac, 1er cru classé
The dozens in original wooden cases with original tissues. Excellent appearance, two in lot 80 with slightly bin-soiled labels. Levels: lot 79 base of neck or better, lot 80 base of neck or better and two top-shoulder
Tasting note: Not a massive wine, in fact very drinkable. Even in cask though full-bodied it was not vast and opaque. By the mid-1990s, rich, fleshy and fine. More recently, a fragrant, cedary bouquet, sweeter than expected, good fruit and flavour. Drinking most agreeably earlier this century. Most recently: medium-deep, mature; sweet, 'chewy', oaky nose which opened up richly; sweeter than expected, extract masking tannin... Last tasted Sept 2003 *** M.B.
