Inscribed with the characters fu (good fortune) and shou (long life)
Dated the 19th day of the 12th month of the 32nd year of the Guangxu era (1906)
Dedicated to Official Enming (1846-1907)

Emperor Guangxu made this calligraphy for the Manchu government official Enming. Three of his titles are listed here and in 1906 he was appointed governor of Anhui province. Several months after receiving this gift, Enming was assassinated by the revolutionary leader Xu Xilin (1893-1907) during an attempted uprising.
