THREE SMALL AGATE CARVINGS
18TH/19TH CENTURY
One a ribbon-tied pouch carved on top with a crouching monkey and a bat, and on the sides with two further bats and a flowering leafy stem, the eyes of the monkey highlighted by dark brown inclusions in the grey stone; one a mottled greyish-white and russet carving of two pomegranates borne on a gnarled branch; the third a figure carrying a branch of peaches over his shoulder where a russet-colored bird is perched, a bat and flowers on the back and another bat near his foot also carved from russet areas of the stone

Acquired in China circa 1937 or earlier, and thence by descent within the family.
