Lot Essay

It is rare to find vases of this shape and decoration with Kangxi marks, as those bearing apocryphal marks are much more common. However, a related vase in the same palette, also with Kangxi six-character mark, was sold in these rooms, 21 September 2004, lot 280. Another example of Kangxi-marked wares with this decoration include a brush pot in the Shanghai Museum, illustrated in Kangxi Porcelain Wares from the Shanghai Museum Collection, Hong Kong, 1998, pp. 128-9, no. 87.
