Lot Essay

This enamel color made its appearance during the Yongzheng period. It is a low-fired glaze using copper as the coloring agent. In Chinese this glaze is called songshi lu, (pine stone green), 'pine stone' being the Chinese name for turquoise.

Compare the pair of similiar bowls of slightly wider diameter, sold in our London sale rooms, 7 June 2004, lot 188.
