Lot Essay

The sitters have been identified as Helen Mabel Montgomery (d. 1919), Lucy Montgomery (d.1881) and James Montgomery (1850-1902), later 4th Bt. Sir James died in 1902 only a year after succeeding to the baronetcy when he fell from the Flying Scotsman.
