Both Gillow and Thomas Chippendale produced designs for similar hall chairs; a Gillow's sketch for a related hall chair is illustrated Gillow Furniture Designs 1760-1800, edited by Lindsay Boynton, Bllomfield, 1995, pl. 286.

An almost identical pair of hall chairs was sold Sotheby's New York, 12 October 1995, lot 287.
