The highly stylized floral meander border seen on this rug is the rarest type of main border for the Ladik group. In basic format, this border can be traced back to at least the 16th century on other types of West Anatolian rugs such as the rare double-niche small medallion Ushak rugs. It has been suggested that all of the Ladik rugs with this border were woven in the village of Innice (J. Bailey: Ladik Prayer Rugs, Hali, no.28, 1985, p.19).
