Lot Essay

A bottle and stopper of the same form and decoration was exhibited by Clichy at the Paris Exposition Universelle of 1867. It was purchased by the Victoria & Albert Museum at the Exposition and remains in their collection today (collection no. 718-1869). For an engraving of this nearly identical piece as illustrated in the 1867 Art Journal, see R. Dufrene and J. and B. Maës, La Cristallerie de Clichy, Clichy, 2005, p. 59.
