Lot Essay

The attention to anatomical detailing on this horse is worth noting. Bands stylistically highlight the knee and ankle joints on the limbs. This can be paralleled in other finely crafted zoomorphic forms such as a Khorassan bronze lion shaped incense burner sold in these Rooms, (10 October, 2000, lot 282), which also has similar bands on its limbs.
