A MINA'I POTTERY JUG
IRAN, CIRCA 1200
Rising from slightly spreading conical foot through rounded bulbous body to pronounced collar, the vertical mouth with slightly flaring rim and simple loop handle with knop, with white ground painted in a variety of overglaze enamel colours, the body with hanging lattice medallions surrounded alternately by scrolling vegetation and stylised birds, the shoulder with a red band, the mouth with psuedo-calligraphic decoration with further scrolling vegetal shapes bounded by band of blue on rim, interior of rim with similar pseudo-calligraphic band with interspersed roundels, handle with striped and lozenge decoration
