Of shallow form on short vertical foot with flat triangle-section rim, the surface engraved with a central roundel containing a square with a stylised maze diaper design, the area around with elegant cloud bands, the cavetto with alternating ovoid and circular cartouches of interlacing strapwork, the ovals containing inscription and the circles with floral sprays, the rim with arabesque design, all the decoration on a hatched ground, the base with later, probably Safavid, owner's inscription

The cartouches are inscribed with three couplets in Persian by Sa'di, Daqiqi and Firdawsi.

Related copper dishes are in the Victoria & Albert and the Hermitage Museum. Both are dated AH 902/1496-97 AD and are probably the product of the same workshop. The Hermitage example is almost identical sharing the same maze diaper design surrounded by cloud bands at its centre (Linda Komaroff, The Golden Disk of Heaven: Metalwork of Timurid Iran, New York, 1992, nos.19-20, pp.194-196).
