Probably from a pair of doors, each painted in gilt and polychrome, two with a central eight-pointed figural medallion depicting a youth holding a wine cup in a floral landscape, sorrounded by four spandrels, two further rectangular panels with two medallions with scrolling floral design and spandrels, all panels with sage green ground, some rubbing to lacquer decoration

Similar wooden panels in the Musée des Arts décoratifs in Paris have remained in their original pair of doors (Rémi Labrusse (dir.), Purs Décors?, exhibition catalogue, Paris, 2007, p.175, cat.205). Other panels from the same group as those offered here were sold at Sotheby's, 21 October 1993, lot 218 and 27 April 1995, lot 326. More recently another group was also sold in these Rooms, 5 October 2010, lots 213 and 214.
