Lot Essay

The calligraphic roundels and the larger rectangular inscription cartouches are unusual in an early Ottoman silk panel. For an example of a calligraphic lampas panel on a similar colour see J.M. Rogers, The Arts of Islam, Treasures from the Nasser D Khalili Collection Abu Dhabi, 2008, pl. 408, p. 345. See lot 314 for a further discussion on tomb coverings.
