MADE FOR A QADI OF MINYA, EGYPT, EARLY 16TH CENTURY
Engraved with a band of cartouches containing naskh inscriptions and dense scrolling lattice, with roundels with blazons, inscription around the mouth, that around the walls reading: mimma 'umila bi-rasm al-janab al-'ali al-mawlawi al-makhdumi al-qadawi al-'ala'i 'alai [sic] al-din qadi mallawi wa'l-qusiya bi'l-wajh al-qibli al-shafi'i khatimat luhu (It was made for His High Excellency, the Lordly, the Well-served, the Qadi, the Lofty, 'Ala al-Din, Qadi of Mallwai and al-Qusiya in the direction of the Qibla, al-Shafi'i, may his works end in good deeds)
