RIGHT BANKS STARS
While the bulk of this consignor's collection lies on the left bank, he chose two outstanding wines to represent the right: 1989 Pétrus and 1998 Pavie.
Pétrus--Vintage 1989
Pomerol, cru exceptionnel
Levels: bottom neck; one slight sign of old seepage
"The '89 Pétrus at a recent tasting was impossibly massive wine. Somewhat closed on the nose, there were suggestions of ripe black fruit, earth, animal notes, chocolate, pepper, and mint. On the palate the wine was very full-bodied, tannic, rich, and firmly textured, with great length and an imposing but finally hugely impressive demeanor. Wow! It will be years, though, until this shows its full potential." CC, August 2010 at the 2010 Rare! Tasting in Detroit.
